THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

A must-have DVD for fans of Mr. Skellington.

This macabre and morbid cult classic has Tim Burton written all over it, but let us not conveniently forget the fact that Nightmare Before Christmas was actually directed by Henry Selick. You can't help but feel sorry for the underrated bloke, even if the characters and settings were indeed conceived by Burton.

Originally released in 1993 as the first full-length stop-motion animated film, it tells the tale of Halloween Town's beloved Pumpin King, Jack Skellington. Every year, Jack and his cronies terrorise the world, but he soon gets restless of this routine and longs for a change. That's when he discovers Christmas Town, the antithesis of Halloween Town.

Against the advice of Sally, a lonely rag doll who is in love with him, Jack decides to kidnap Santa Claus and take over Christmas. But his efforts to combine the two holidays end up with disastrous results, and he's left to remedy the situation.

With a re-release and splendid digital makeover, audiences can revel even more in this 76-minute visual and musical treat. Its short run-time also ensures that the movie doesn't outstay its welcome.

The best part about this film is in how every small detail is so skillfully crafted that you'd be happy just watching what goes on in the shadows!

This surprisingly uplifting masterpiece is a thoroughly noteworthy and poetic movie, and makes a perfect gift for the holiday season.

Apart from deleted scenes and a gallery of posters and trailers, this two-disc DVD is also packed with bonus features like The World of The Nightmare Before Christmas, which boasts comprehensive concept art and character designs. Also included are Tim Burton's earlier black-and-white films, Frankenweenie and Vincent.
